Grease guns are very useful for lubricating various parts of equipment such as cars, trucks, boats, industrial machinery, etc. They are also used in workshops and garages for lubrication purposes. Workshops and automotive tools make extensive use of these grease guns. Various types of grease guns are available. They include pneumatic, hand-pump powered, electric, and air-pumped.
The pneumatic type of grease gun has no safety devices like breaks to keep the nozzle away from your face. It gets its power from the compressed air. This kind of gun should be used with caution around children and animals as well. Electric grease guns get their power directly from the electric motor that is kept in a gearbox. They are safe to use even if the output per stroke is low.
For a smooth and fluid motion, keep spraying at the same height above the piece that needs lubrication. You will need to get the weight of the piece that needs lubrication. Then, take the loaded part and extend the piston upwardly into the air. Spray the lubricant from the tip of the nozzle over the load area. This can be done for both the up and down motion of the piece. Read all the step by step instructions that come with your grease gun.
If you are using an air-pumped type of grease gun, make sure that you load it properly. It needs to be pumped with compressed air so that it pumps out all the contents and lubricates the fittings properly. Also, you may have to tweak the settings a bit so as to get the right flow of air into the mechanism. Check the loading procedures in the manual for proper settings.
When the piece is completely unloaded from the container, you should be able to fill the loading tube with the lubricant easily. Check the tube carefully before you close it to make sure that there is no air leaking or holes present. Some grease guns use a flexible rubber tube that you can thread through the tube on the load. Make sure that it is long enough so that you can thread the tube through the entire tube on the top and bottom of the container so that the grease reaches all the parts of the frame, the fittings, and the screws that secure the tank.
After you have threaded all the way through, you can close the tube on the tool body but before you do, you should turn on the trigger to let the tool body extend all the way to the bottom of the container so that you can fill the load. When you have properly threaded through the tube, the first thing that you should do is to apply even strokes on the frame so that you can ensure that they are even and you can make sure that you get the coating of grease on the load. Once you are done, you should run the plunger to the very last part of the body and open it so that the excess drips to the ground. This should be done to the bottom of the frame and you should make sure that the grease is removed thoroughly. Make sure that you have thoroughly greased the fittings before you start the painting process.
You can open the lid of the cartridge and put it in your hand so that you can pour the grease into the loading mechanism. When you have properly loaded the mechanism, you can close the lid and put the cap back to ensure that air flows through the compartment that you have opened. To make sure that the primer is evenly wet, you should run the needle across the front of the cap.
The next step is to load the second barrel into the gun. As the process goes on, you must keep an eye on the quantity that you load into the first step. The grease must be applied uniformly on both sides of the primer and the first barrel. The primer will be a very good lubricant for the first barrel and the barrel must be covered carefully with the grease. When you have completely loaded the gun, you should close the loading mechanism and you can wait for the gun to be dried. Then, you can replace the cap on the cartridge and close the lid of the grease gun.
