Do you want your home or office to shine with new colors? Would you like your lighting to be modern and chic? Then learn about all the lighting trends of 2018 in our new article! Lighting, like any other major industry, inextricably linked to interior design, makes a significant contribution to the overall appearance of the final product – a beautifully decorated house, apartment or office.
Alas, not every interior designer uses advanced and innovative technology, so it makes sense to get specialized advice.
We pass the floor to lighting systems specialist Vitaly Pavlov, head of the Russian branch of ABV Löwen (Germany).
He has been to the legendary Light+Building 2018 exhibition and will tell you exactly what attracted his attention.
Vitaly Pavlov, lighting systems specialist. In the field of lighting since 2005.
Worked in the representative offices of factories such as LIVAL, HALLA, XAL.
Since 2016 he heads the Russian representative office of the German company ABV Löwen, which represents a number of European lighting factories in Russia and the CIS countries.

– In March, Light+Building 2018 was held in Frankfurt am Main, on the world’s third largest exhibition site called Messe Frankfurt (more than 660,000 square meters).
The Light+Building exhibition is held every two years, which gives companies and factories every time surprise us with new products and technologies.
Let’s see what manufacturers of architectural lighting systems offer us, and what is relevant in the design of lighting in offices and commercial sites, because the latest developments in the direction of LED lighting (LED) are most often used here.
Built-in modular systems.
The main trend in the exhibition were recessed modular systems.
ELECTROLUX Quantum Series: Choosing a heater
If previously one had to choose between offers of two or three factories, whose products are not always affordable to customers, but today, such modular systems offer all companies which produce architectural light.

Do not think that they are now in the segment of the economy class, because most of the novelties still comes to us from top firms and manufacturers.
And some of them have not quite usual for such systems, original and exclusive in design light modules (photo 1 and 2 above).
But I met a few more budget, 15-20% cheaper (photo 3 above).
Recessed lights: trends-2018.
Now let’s talk about simple recessed luminaires, although the word “simple” does not quite apply here anymore.
A relatively new trend at Light+Building 2018 is recessed luminaires with optics and grilles, you can often see them in the ceiling design in American offices.
Such grids are called raster grids and are now used in a completely different format (for example, previously the large size, 60 by 60 cm, was popular).
Today they are miniature, neat models, which have individual optics for each LED.
The raster grid here is metal or plastic, design, and each LED cell is individual.

If previously such technology used a few factories that specialize specifically in architectural lighting, but now they are used by other manufacturers of lighting equipment (photo 1 above).
The advantages of such fixtures are undeniable.
Firstly, these lights due to the optics of higher efficiency, because the light does not dissolve in space, and clearly and in its entirety, without any losses, reaches the illuminated surfaces.
That is the illumination turns out point, strong, but without bright light.
Secondly, due to the designer raster grid the fixture becomes invisible and creates a futuristic image in the interior (photo 2 above).
The same applies to overhead and pendant interior luminaires (photo 3 above).
Office lighting systems.
Office lighting systems are worthy of a separate unit.
European manufacturers are trying to provide a more comfortable work process for the users.
It seemed to me that simple profile luminaires are going out of fashion.
In their place come mobile and customized solutions for workplace lighting, as evidenced by the Light+Building 2018 exhibition itself.
Virtually every factory that develops office lighting systems has introduced floor lamps and table lamps specifically for offices (photos 1 and 2 below).
Some fixtures can even be individually integrated into furniture.
Popular lighting factories are already signing contracts with similarly popular furniture brands to produce special series of office furniture specifically with the ability to integrate fixtures into furniture (photo 3 below).

Luminaires with noise-canceling elements.
Another trend in office lighting – luminaires with noise-absorbing elements.
Leading European lighting factories have presented new items in different shapes and colors in this direction.
By the way, almost all such lights have their own LED optics.

Presence detectors in luminaires.
Virtually all office lighting fixtures are equipped with presence detectors.
Plus they integrate a system that allows you to organize an automated dynamic lighting of the premises.
The work of artificial light sources is based on the impact on human activity, health and mood (Human Centric Lighting).
Parametric and geometric systems and modules.
I would like to mention the office systems which are absolutely independent of the room geometry and ceiling heights, even if they are different throughout the space.

This is the most important thing I wanted to point out in the trend of architectural and office lighting.
If you try to describe everything you can see and learn at Light+Building Frankfurt, it would be a book.
So I recommend everyone to visit the exhibition in 2020.
I am sure they will show us even more interesting and advanced light.
