Three hostesses, three generations, three perspectives on life.
Is it possible to create a space where everyone would be comfortable? The author of this kitchen project answers in the affirmative and even shares a recipe for success.
One of the ideas that the author has managed to implement in this project is the connection between generations.
The youngest of the hostesses had just entered college, and the oldest was in her ninth decade.
The retro-styled Smeg appliances were used to play around with modern interior design objects such as the Bubbles chandelier and repainted and aged chairs from IKEA.
Irina Vasilyeva, interior designer.
– I got my first practical experience as a designer while working on my home project.
In many ways this defined my further approach to work – to create not just a beautiful picture, but a functional and individual environment for living.
I believe that the interior is a reflection of a particular person, his inner world, hobbies and needs.
Therefore, for me it is very important to understand my client and be “on the same wave.

This kitchen was called “Sunset in a Quiet Harbor.

Our heroines.
Four women of different generations, whose fate is somehow connected with the sea.
But to create a design concept it seemed to me the right way to get away from the standard “sea” theme and link the sea theme with the image of a woman – the keeper of hearth and the source of harmony.
So the color palette of the project appeared – the main color was red-orange, whitened to a soft beige, symbolizing the rays of the setting sun, and the accent color was blue-green, the color of the azure sea.

What was the designer’s task? The 13-meter kitchen with a ceiling height of 2.6 meters had to accommodate storage space, a working area, a dining area (which could comfortably accommodate four people), and be sure to install a TV.
It was necessary to keep in mind that there are three cats in the house who are used to always be near the housewives.
What could be done.
The working area was decided to be placed in a bay window.
It became a symbol of the captain’s bridge of a ship with a woman at the helm.

The outlets for small appliances were concealed, integrated into the countertop.
The main storage areas are the cabinets under the work area, as well as cabinets to the right of the entrance.
The dining area is to the left of the entrance, and a TV is placed opposite it so that the family can dine while watching their favorite movies.

They didn’t forget about the cats: on the left side under the work area, under the countertop, there’s space for their bowls.
And above that is a drawer for storing food.
Associated with the cats is the fact that many of the furnishings were made to order.
For example, the sofa made from pallets.
Under the seat is designed space that can be used either to store some things (books, magazines), or to accommodate cat beds.
The coffee table, made from a construction coil, is a hybrid of a table and a scratching post.
The rope that covers the leg can be replaced as it wears out.
And, of course, a mast shelf towers over the sofa!.

Properly selected materials. Textiles also emphasize the theme of the sea.
The folds of Roman blinds overhanging the “captain’s bridge” resemble stretched sails, the colors of the pillows are refreshed by the sea breeze.
For the floor a solid floorboard was chosen, a deck layout.
An interesting object was the door.
Made of the same material as the floor, the door seems to grow out of it.
The windows of the door are made in the form of portholes.
The Roman curtains around the window resemble sails and the Nautilus pendant lights further underline the connection to the sea.
